Not only does a marquee wedding give you the flexibility and control to make the day truly your own, but it’s also a great idea if you’re working within a budget. Save a little money on your wedding so that you can splash out on your honeymoon. Or shoes. No judgement here!

Ok then, let’s get to it –

Location

Are you lucky enough to have access to a large property or backyard? Ask around amongst your families and friends; you never know who they may know! If not, no problem, we’ve put together a list of our favourite venues where you can set up your marquee. Amidst stunning, natural bushland? Absolutely! Atop a picturesque cliff? Sure! By a peaceful river? Yes, please! The options are endless.

Marquee company

Sydney-based Katalane comes to mind for their great style, attention to detail and customer service, just saying.

But seriously, we pride ourselves on offering beautiful and unique marquees that will bring something very special to your wedding day and ensure that your guests are talking about this day for years to come for all the right reasons.

Which marquee suits your style – classic Hamptons? Or nomadic TipisAnd don’t forget all the trimmings! Check out our accessories range – we have a fabulous array of lighting, flooring, dance floor, bar and bespoke furniture to get excited about…

(Also, feel free to chat with Abbie or Fiona from Katalane for a décor styling consultation.)

Wedding planner and/or stylist

If your budget permits, a full-service wedding planner will make sure that everything runs seamlessly from beginning to end so that you can enjoy a stress-free wedding day. Their job is to manage and execute all logistics involved in planning your day, from sourcing and booking vendors and venues to planning menus, managing contracts, budgets and timelines, as well as styling your event.

A less expensive option is to hire a wedding stylist who will focus solely on creating the perfect aesthetic backdrop for your wedding. OR you could go with a wedding day-of coordinator to manage and oversee the running of all aspects of your wedding on the actual day.

If you decide on no planner, be sure to create a timeline for the week preceding and a schedule for the day.

Caterer

First, determine which dining style you would like – formal, informal, seated, banquet or cocktail – and then match the type of food to your chosen style. Wedding guests will never forget good food, so it’s essential to get it right.

Word of mouth or recommendations from your wedding planner can go a long way in choosing the right caterer for you.

And with so many catering options available, you definitely won’t be stuck for choice here!

For everything that comes in a glass or a bottle, why not hire a drinks van? Very on point right now, a mobile bar will be one of the focal points of your wedding, so it’s worth going all out on one of these babies. So many styles to choose from – rustic, fun, chic, retro – there’s a van, truck or cart to suit every event.

Just add exterior festoon lighting and lounge furniture, and voila! Your outdoor space is transformed into an additional mingling area for you and your guests.

Floral design

Your wedding planner or stylist will also be a great help when it comes to the flowers. They will most likely have a bevy of floral designers on speed dial and can guide you to choose the designs that most suit your style and budget. Instagram is a great source of inspiration, as is Pinterest, and you can create a board of images to share with your planner.

Of course, if you know exactly what you want, you can work directly with your favourite floral designer.

Photographer

What style of photography do you like? Again, Instagram is a treasure trove of inspiration. Find someone whose style you love, but also who you feel comfortable with when talking to them. Be very specific when discussing what you want; they may also suggest some great ideas you may not have thought of. Do your research and read reviews/testimonials from former clients. It’s also worth getting multiple quotes and finding out exactly what’s included in each photographer’s wedding package.

If we can give you one word of advice – make sure you lock your photographer in early!

In addition, you could set up a photo booth in your marquee. Everybody loves a photo booth, and you’re guaranteed to get some fun (and memorable!) pics.

Music

What are you thinking? A band? A DJ? A bit of both? Ask around for recommendations, or maybe you’ll remember a DJ you loved from a friend’s recent wedding.

Don’t forget online wedding directories are an excellent source for wedding suppliers/vendors.

Whoever you choose, make sure you tell them how you’d like the music to evolve throughout your event. There’s nothing better than dancing like nobody’s watching to your favourite songs.

Glamping

Want to turn your wedding into a festival? Venue permitting, consider glamping tents for your guests and let the afterparty begin!

This option takes the stress out of finding accommodation or booking taxis for everyone.

You and your guests can continue the celebrations with a recovery brunch and relive your wedding all over again.

Housekeeping

And finally, the less glamorous side of planning a wedding…

Check with your venue if you need to organise portable toilets (from basic to luxe) and rubbish removal – some caterers remove the rubbish, so be sure to read the fine print!

We have a feeling it’s going to be a VERY busy wedding season next year, so we recommend you seize this moment. Get in touch and let us help you plan the marquee wedding of your dreams.
